Oh, That Night: Inner Pages

“Oh, That Night!” / “Ach, diese Nacht!” took 5 years (and a lifetime) to create!

This project was first inspired in my childhood, based on my own questions about the moon.
It gained a muse (and a momentum!) after a child was born who shared an interest in that rock in the sky.

Oh, That Night: Early sketches

After the production of the book got rolling, it took five years to develop and produce.
Many different types of illustration and materials were tested, including watercolor, markers, woodcuts and colored pencils.

Oh, That Night: Early materials

These experiments finally culminated in a set of images created with glue and colored construction paper.

In much the same way that children make their first collages, this method felt right.

Ed Crumb, inspired by Cupcake, the Chiweenie

As the illustrations and text evolved, so, too, did the characters.

Edward Crumb (DE: Edward Krümel) was first envisioned as a gnome!

The cosmic guide later evolved into a different creature based on a little Dachshund/Chihuahua dog who was named Cupcake.

Berlin Mitte in a photographs and the inspired artwork

Berlin, too became a character in the book, with iconic city scenes inspiring many of the night flight images.

Gallery Show comet in flight

The creative products are two hard-cover books (English and German)

There is also a gallery show, displaying framed works and also a set of 3-dimensional and interactive pieces representing the moon and space.

This event will occur on November 9th, 2025, featuring sounds from Friends of Fido
